As described in our previous newsletter, , the China's national standard GB/T 39498-2020 "Guidelines for the Use and Control of Key Chemical Substances in Consumer Product" (消費品中重點化學物質使用控制指南) was issued on 2020-11-19 by the Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China (國家標準化管理委員會).
The chemical restrictions in this standard are mainly for toys and other consumer goods, such as jewelry, electrical appliances, leather goods and products that come into contact with skin.
Examples of restricted chemicals are as follows:
➢ Heavy Metal
➢ Volatile Organic Compounds (e.g. Benzene, Toluene, Formaldehyde, etc.)
➢ Bisphenol A
➢ Chlorinated Solvents
➢ PBBs
➢ PBDEs
➢ Pyrethrol and Pyridine Polyoxyethylene Ether
➢ N-nitrosamines and N-nitro Substances
➢ SCCPs (C10-C13) (SCCP)
➢ Phthalates
➢ Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs)
➢ Spices
