Thailand's New Mandatory Safety Standard for Toys – TIS 685 Part 1-2562 (2019)

In March 2022, the Thai Ministry of Industry has included TIS 685 Part 1-2562 (2019) Toys: Safety requirements Part 1 – Requirements into the Thai National List of Compulsory Standards

 

TIS 685 Part 1-2562 (2019) was issued on 2021-02-10 under Section 15 of the Industrial Product Standards Act to replace the original 1997 version.  

 

The industrial product standard was established based on the input from academics, manufacturers, users and the following documents:

ISO 8124 - 1: 2018

Safety of toys – Part 1: Safety aspects related to mechanical and physical properties

ISO 8124 - 2: 2014

Safety of toys – Part 2: Flammability

ISO 8124 - 3: 2010 Amd 1: 2018

Safety of toys – Part 3: Migration of certain elements

ISO 8124 - 6: 2018

Safety of toys – Part 6: Certain phthalate esters in toys and children’s products

EN 71-1: 2014 A1: 2018

Safety of toys – Part 1: Mechanical and physical properties

AS 1647.2-1992

Children’s Toy (Safety requirements) Part 2: Constructional Requirements

Element’s content in test samples extracted from toys and toy materials (Section 4.6.1 of the Standard)

Total content of phthalate derivatives in test samples extracted from plastics, rubbers and coatings in the exposed area or part (Table 3 of the Standard)

Phthalate derivatives

The maximum threshold for the total quantity of phthalate derivatives in the test specimens extracted from plastics, rubber and coatings in exposed areas or parts.  The unit is a percentage fraction by mass.

General toys

Toys for children under 3 years old and have parts that can be put in the mouth

Bis-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)

The standard will become mandatory on 2022-09-22.
