On 2021-12-29, the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) announced the adding of Perfluorononanoic Acid (PFNA) and its salts to the “list of chemicals known to the state to cause reproductive toxicity for purposes of the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986” (i.e. the Proposition 65 List).
Significance:
The foregoing OEHHA notice mentioned that, at a public meeting on 2021-12-14, the Developmental and Reproductive Toxicant Identification Committee (DARTIC) determined that PFNA and its salts were clearly shown through scientifically valid testing according to generally accepted principles to cause reproductive toxicity, based on the male reproductive endpoint.
Therefore, the new item “PFNA and its salts” was added to the latest version (2021-12-31) of the “Proposition 65 List” as following:
- Chemical: Perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA) and its salts
- Type of Toxicity: Male Reproductive Toxicity
- Listing Mechanism: SQE
- Date Listed: 2021-12-31
Effective Date:
This listing has become effective on 2021-12-31.
